Overheard At Practice

I don't write these down on purpose. They just happen near me, and then I can't unhear them, so now you have to know too. A partial transcript from one Tuesday, presented without much context because the context didn't help:

"I'm not saying I threw that at your ego on purpose, but I'm also not saying I didn't." Someone else, immediately after getting eliminated: "This is basically assault." No, it's dodgeball, and you signed up. A personal favorite, from a teammate mid-huddle: "Can we lose with a little more dignity this time?" We could not. We did not. Nobody was surprised.

The sideline is where all the real material comes from. If you've ever said something unhinged directly after getting hit with a rubber ball at high velocity, know that I respect you, and there's a real chance it's ending up on a shirt eventually.
